Squad Kayak Training

The best way to fast-track your paddle fitness and skill is in a squad environment. By paddling with others, you can benchmark your performance, push yourself harder than you would alone, stay motivated, and meet like-minded athletes who will support you to meet your goals.

What is it?

Conducted from Sandridge Lifesaving Club by Australia`s top AR, multisport and ocean paddlers, Peak Adventure squad sessions comprise structured training drills designed to improve your technique, strength and fitness. Whether your goal is to simply get fit, lose weight, and discover a healthy hobby in the great outdoors, or compete at an elite level on the international stage, our squad sessions allow for a wide variety of abilities. But expect to work hard and get your heart rate up!

Who is it for?

Anyone and everyone! Paddling is a great low-impact sport suitable for all ages and abilities. We cater for weekend warriors to elite athletes.

Are there pre-requisites?

Yes. Ocean paddling can be a risky sport if proper precautions are not taken, so we place a big emphasis on safety. To join our squad, you must:
  • be able to swim 100 metres unassisted
  • have completed either: a Peak Adventure Intro to Ocean Paddling course (see Events for the next available course); or at least one private lesson to set you up with the basic skills; or have proven equivalent experience on an ocean racing ski or similar craft.

If you have never paddled an ocean/surf ski before, please contact us first to discuss your options. Sorry, but no first-time beginners at squad sessions - this is for your own safety.

What should I bring?

If you do not have your own equipment, that’s okay! All equipment, including ski, paddle and PFD, is available. However, you will be getting wet, so make sure you are dressed in clothing that is appropriate for the conditions e.g. thermal/compression tops and bottoms; paddling-specific shorts or tri/bike shorts; a windproof top (very important in winter!); wetsuit if it is super cold and you expect to fall in; booties or old runners (for warmth and foot-safety on the beach); beanie, cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, depending on the weather.

Remember, there is no such thing as poor weather, just poor clothing!

Where?

Sandridge Lifesaving Club
240 The Boulevard, Port Melbourne (Melways 56 G3)

How much?

$15.00 per person (all equipment supplied - bookings required)

NEW SESSION: Say hello to the Sunday Brickfast!

‘Brick’ training means training in different disciplines, back-to-back, in the one session. In multisport and adventure racing, brick training is essential for conditioning your body to move easily from one discipline to another, as well as practising your transitions and preparing a race plan.

That's why we've invented the Sunday Brickfast!

What is it?
Aimed at everyone from total novices looking to learn new skills and build fitness, to the experienced looking to smash out fast and fun session, these sessions will run over two hours, and will comprise a safe, friendly and very achievable paddle, MTB and run course (with some mystery adventure activities added in from time to time e.g. standup-paddleboarding, obstacles, and swimming in summer).

The first is scheduled for 16th June, and we plan to run one every month at three locations around inner Melbourne.
