Squad Kayak Training
The best way to fast-track your paddle fitness and skill is in a squad environment. By paddling with others, you can benchmark your performance, push yourself harder than you would alone, stay motivated, and meet like-minded athletes who will support you to meet your goals.
What is it?Conducted from Sandridge Lifesaving Club by Australia`s top AR, multisport and ocean paddlers, Peak Adventure squad sessions comprise structured training drills designed to improve your technique, strength and fitness. Whether your goal is to simply get fit, lose weight, and discover a healthy hobby in the great outdoors, or compete at an elite level on the international stage, our squad sessions allow for a wide variety of abilities. But expect to work hard and get your heart rate up!
Who is it for? Anyone and everyone! Paddling is a great low-impact sport suitable for all ages and abilities. We cater for weekend warriors to elite athletes.
Are there pre-requisites?Yes. Ocean paddling can be a risky sport if proper precautions are not taken, so we place a big emphasis on safety. To join our squad, you must:
- be able to swim 100 metres unassisted
- have completed either: a Peak Adventure Intro to Ocean Paddling course (see Events for the next available course); or at least one private lesson to set you up with the basic skills; or have proven equivalent experience on an ocean racing ski or similar craft.
If you have never paddled an ocean/surf ski before, please contact us first to discuss your options. Sorry, but no first-time beginners at squad sessions - this is for your own safety.
What should I bring? If you do not have your own equipment, that’s okay! All equipment, including ski, paddle and PFD, is available. However, you will be getting wet, so make sure you are dressed in clothing that is appropriate for the conditions e.g. thermal/compression tops and bottoms; paddling-specific shorts or tri/bike shorts; a windproof top (very important in winter!); wetsuit if it is super cold and you expect to fall in; booties or old runners (for warmth and foot-safety on the beach); beanie, cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, depending on the weather.
Remember, there is no such thing as poor weather, just poor clothing!

Don`t worry about which kayak number you select in your booking - it makes no difference. You just need to book in and we will make sure you are paddling the right kayak on the day.
