Peninsula Downwind Skills Clinic: January 16, 2016
Think you've nailed the bay, but still lack the skill and experience to take on bigger downwind conditions? Then this clinic is for you.
What is it?
Conducted in a small, safe group environment, this session takes in the super-fun (but not shit-your-pants scary) downwind run from Flinders to Somers on Westernport.
Over three hours of coached paddling, you will get an introduction to the fundamentals of:
-
How to be safe and prepared
-
How to read and predict the conditions
-
How to navigate on the water taking into account wind, swell, tides and currents
-
How to link and catch runners for maximum speed and efficiency
-
How to negotiate the interplay between wind and ground swell
Who is it for?
This course is for intermediate paddlers who:
-
Have at least six months' experience paddling ocean skis
-
Are comfortable paddling in winds of 15-20 knots
-
Are reasonably stable in their craft during their day-to-day paddling (doesn't matter which make or model)
-
Can maintain a paddling speed of at least 9-10km/h for up to two hours, on flat water
-
Are confident remounting their ski in deep water.
