Kathmandu Summit Club Kayaking for Beginners
Want to learn the art and skill of kayaking? Looking to tackle an adventure or multisport race like the Kathmandu Coast to Coast in New Zealand, or take on an ocean, downriver or flatwatwer paddling event? Or do you just want to get fit, tone up your core and discover a new sport in the great outdoors?
Then this Kayaking for Beginners clinic is the best place to get started!
Who's it for?
This clinic is ideal for total newbies, to people who's skills may have lapsed and want to revisit the fundamentals in a friendly, safe group environment. All fitness levels welcome.
What will I learn?
Over two hours you will be introduced to:

Equipment selection and set up, using the latest sit-on-top ocean racing skis.

Water safety - how to read the conditions and stay safe while out on the water.

The fundamentals of the kayak stroke.
-
How to quickly and efficiently get back on your kayak if you fall out in deep water.

Strength, speed and endurance training principles.
Once you've successfully completed this clinic, you will be eligible to join our five weekday group training squad sessions where you will be able to consistently build on your skills, fitness and knowldedge - the best way to improve is by doing!
What should I bring?
All kayaks, lifejackets and paddles are supplied.
You will be getting wet, so make sure you wear clothing that wicks away moisture and keeps you warm, e.g:

A wetsuit is highly recommended if you are susceptible to cold

Long sleeve neoprene, polypropylene or lycra tops and pants

A windproof jacket or vest

River/reef booties or old, thin-soled footwear

Cap or beanie, depending on the weather

Water or energy drink in bottle or bladder
-
Towel and change or clothes for aftwerwards.
